  • Description

Marine-Tex Epoxy Putty is a legendary, heavy-duty, two-part structural repair compound widely trusted for fixing hulls, equipment, and structural components both above and below the waterline. Known for its unique handling characteristics-handling like putty, hardening like steel, and sanding like wood-it creates permanent, waterproof repairs resistant to saltwater, UV rays, fuel, and marine chemicals.

  • Best For: Larger structural rebuilds, patching larger tanks, or piping cracks.
  • Features: Covers 124 square inches at 1/8" thickness; non-magnetic and non-corrosive.

Core Specifications & Performance

  • Mixing Ratio: 5 parts resin to 1 part hardener by volume (or 6.3:1 by weight).
  • Working Time (Pot Life): Roughly 30 minutes at 72°F (22°C) when spread thin. Note that keeping it in a large lump accelerates the chemical reaction, dropping working time to 15–20 minutes.
  • Cure Time: Fully cures in 24 hours at 72°F.
  • Temperature Constraints: The project area must be at least 55°F (13°C) for proper curing.
  • Post-Cure Work: Once hardened, it can be seamlessly sanded, drilled, tapped, sawed, and painted.

Application Pro-Tips

  • Prep is Crucial: Epoxy will not adhere to oily or dirty surfaces. Completely decontaminate the area using acetone or lacquer thinner, then rough it up with sandpaper and remove the leftover grit before applying.
  • Mixing Small Batches: Because it requires an exact 5:1 volume ratio, mixing very small quantities can be tricky. Use the provided level measuring spoons rather than guessing to avoid reducing the strength of the final cure.

Structural Reinforcement: For wide cracks or holes, Marine-Tex can be paired with fiberglass tape or cloth to bridge the gap and add immense structural rigidity.
