- Description
The Pettit Splash Zone A-788 2-Gallon Kit is a two-part epoxy repair compound for making patches and repairs on marine vessels and other structures. It can be applied underwater and is known for its extreme hardness, abrasion resistance, and impact resistance once cured.
Product features
- Two-part compound: The kit contains two components, Part A (yellow) and Part B (black), which are mixed together to create the repair material.
- Underwater application: Splash Zone is suitable for use both above and below the waterline, including repairs that must be performed completely underwater.
- Versatile use: The compound adheres to a variety of substrates, including wood, concrete, fiberglass, steel, galvanized steel, and aluminum.
- Durability: Once cured, the surface is rock-hard and resistant to impact and abrasion. It can also be drilled, tapped, or machined.
- Corrosion and erosion protection: The epoxy provides excellent protection against the corrosion of metals and the deterioration of wood and concrete.
- 1:1 mix ratio: The components are mixed in a simple one-to-one ratio.
- Quick curing: The compound sets in about four hours and fully cures overnight, depending on temperature.
- 100% solids: As a 100% solids epoxy, it will not shrink as it cures.
- Not for potable water: This product is not to be used in potable water systems.
How to apply
-
Preparation:
- Remove all dirt, grease, loose paint, and marine growth from the surface.
- For the best adhesion, the manufacturer recommends sandblasting, but high-pressure water blasting is also acceptable.
-
Mixing:
- Protect your hands with tight-fitting rubber gloves.
- Scoop out approximately equal amounts of Component A (yellow) and Component B (black).
- Knead the components together by hand until they form a uniform olive-green color.
- Periodically re-wet your gloved hands with water to prevent the epoxy from becoming too sticky and pulling away.
-
Application:
- Apply the mixed compound to the prepared surface by hand, a trowel, or a broad knife.
- Spread the material in a layer about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick, applying firm pressure to displace any trapped air or water bubbles.
- For applications on a dry surface, re-wet your hands or tools with water to help smooth the material.
- When applied underwater, a lighter green "scum" layer will form, which is normal and aids the application process.
